Data Insights Lead

Job Location: Fully remote; Odyssey's team is distributed across Africa, Europe, and the Americas. As clients are mainly located in Europe/Africa timezones, candidates are expected to work corresponding hours.

About Odyssey Energy Solutions

The energy transition will be won or lost in emerging markets, and Odyssey is building the infrastructure to win it.

Founded in 2017, Odyssey Energy Solutions is the platform at the center of the distributed renewable energy sector. We connect a network of ~6,000 EPCs and project developers across India, Africa, and Latin America with the institutional capital, Tier-1 equipment, and financial tools they need to build faster. With over $3B of capital on our platform, Odyssey is the connective tissue of the distributed energy sector — linking the builders, the financiers, and the equipment suppliers who are electrifying emerging markets.

Backed by Union Square Ventures, Equal Ventures, and a deep bench of development finance institutions, Odyssey is at an inflection point. We're looking for exceptional people ready to build something that matters.

Data is core to how Odyssey delivers value to its program clients — turning project pipeline information, field results, and results-based finance metrics into the dashboards and insights that DFIs, government agencies, and implementing partners use to make decisions. As the platform scales to support energy access programs such as Mission 300, DARES, ASCENT, and others, the demand for expert delivery of insights from complex datasets is at an all-time high. The Data Insights Lead will own the quality of what ships externally, translate client needs into high-quality data products, and serve as the connective tissue between account executives, the data science team, and external stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

You are a delivery-oriented data professional who is equally comfortable in a client meeting and a technical standup. You bring sharp instincts for scoping — quickly identifying what a client actually needs versus what they're asking for — and can turn that into something the data team can act on. You are organised, proactive, and manage multiple workstreams without dropping balls. You raise the floor on quality across everything the team delivers and surface problems before they become crises. Experience in energy access, development finance, or infrastructure programs in emerging markets is a genuine plus — but strong delivery instincts and sector curiosity will take you far.

Reponsibilities

  • Understand what program clients need from their data — not just what they ask for — and translate that into high-quality data products that drive decisions;
  • Lead data review sessions, dashboard walkthroughs, and insights presentations with program clients — DFIs, government agencies, EPCs, and implementing partners;
  • Translate complex outputs into narratives that non-technical audiences can act on;
  • Serve as the primary contact when clients have questions about their data, reporting cycles, or what the numbers mean;
  • Represent Odyssey's data capabilities in business development conversations and program onboarding;
  • Own the QA process for analytics outputs going to external clients — the last set of eyes before anything is published;
  • Identify and troubleshoot data outliers, gaps, and errors with the support of engineers and the data science team;
  • Maintain and evolve our template and component library; define what 'good' looks like across the portfolio;
  • Be the expert resource account executives turn to when scoping something new or hitting a wall;
  • Liaise with the data science and engineering team: translate program needs into clear briefs, manage handoffs, make sure technical work lands well with clients, and provide feedback to help improve the product;
  • Contribute to our analytics intake and scoping process; help reduce friction between program delivery and the technical team
  • Flag patterns across programs — recurring client needs, gaps in our tooling, opportunities to build once and reuse
  • Create and maintain client-facing dashboards using proprietary BI tools
  • Set up and maintain client data integrations that feed dashboards, working with the data science team to implement new queries
  • Provide responsive, hands-on customer support to clients, resolving data issues, and keeping clients informed across reporting cycles

Required Skills:

  • 5–10 years of experience in data, analytics, or program delivery — ideally spanning both client-facing and technical teams
  • Comfortable writing SQL queries to interrogate data directly across our data sources (Elasticsearch, TimescaleDB, PostgresSQL)
  • Comfortable reading and writing python scripts for data checks, wrangling, and light automation
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting data quality issues using log analytics stack
  • Comfortable building dashboards using BI tools. Experience with Kibana, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar transfers directly; you can tell when a chart or metric looks off
  • Strong communicator who can hold your own in a client call and a technical standup
  • Sharp on scoping — able to quickly identify what a client actually needs versus what they're asking for, and turn that into something actionable for the data team
  • Organised and proactive; able to manage multiple workstreams and surface problems before they become crises

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Experience in energy access, development finance, or infrastructure programs in emerging markets
  • Familiarity with results-based financing programs, project pipeline reporting, or DFI program delivery
  • Experience working in or with small, fast-moving teams in a distributed environment
  • Experience with Git / version control
  • Experience with time-series databases, familiarity with the ELK stack is a plus
  • French language proficiency a plus
