May 26 | Abuja, Nigeria – Odyssey Energy Solutions is supporting IHS Nigeria, part of the IHS Towers (“IHS”) group, one of the world’s largest independent owners, operators, and developers of shared communications infrastructure by tower count, to solarize IHS telecom tower sites in Nigeria.
With over 16,000 towers in operation across Nigeria, IHS Nigeria plays a critical role in keeping people connected. Through Odyssey’s Tower Solarization Program, the two companies are working together to further transition IHS tower power sources away from diesel generators and toward distributed solar energy. The program is expected to not only contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across Nigeria’s telecom sector, but also deliver new economic opportunities in rural communities and lower operational costs.
The Odyssey platform is supporting IHS Nigeria by:
● Leveraging Odyssey’s tendering software to recruit and select top-tier solar EPCs with mini-grid sites near tower locations.
● Managing energy billing and payments, delivering streamlined, transparent transactions between mini-grid developers and IHS Nigeria.
● Providing real-time performance analytics, giving IHS Nigeria visibility into energy production, outages, and potential performance issues — all through Odyssey’s centralized platform.
● Digitizing the full energy lifecycle, enabling IHS Nigeria to manage everything from contracting to monitoring and payments in one seamless system.
“This partnership demonstrates how Odyssey unlocks the potential of distributed renewable energy for commercial clients,” said Emily McAteer, CEO of Odyssey Energy Solutions. “By digitizing tender and contracting, performance monitoring, and billing and payments, we’re helping IHS Nigeria to further scale the use of clean energy across its network — while creating new revenue opportunities and stable demand for mini-grid developers.”
Mohamad Darwish, CEO of IHS Nigeria, emphasized the broader vision: “Reliable, sustainable energy is critical to powering Nigeria’s digital future. At IHS, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and further moving into more sustainable and reliable energy sources. Mini grids are crucial to providing power in Nigeria, and we are excited to be working with Odyssey to partner with the various developers that will help us further optimize our operations, while supporting uptake of their solutions – a win-win situation for both of our organizations.”
This collaboration is one of many where Odyssey is helping commercial enterprises deploy large-scale distributed solar energy — demonstrating a scalable model for how critical infrastructure can transition to clean power while boosting local economies and delivering better service to customers.
