
Emily McAteer
Founder & CEO
Emily is a veteran of the distributed renewable energy (DRE) sector, beginning her career more than a decade ago as a Fulbright scholar addressing off-grid solar lighting solutions in rural India. Before founding Odyssey, she was Chief Revenue Officer at Frontier Power, where she developed solar microgrids in India and Africa. Previously, she worked in advanced energy management at EnerNOC and Yahoo and developed climate investment solutions at RiskMetrics Group. Emily holds a BA from Brown University, an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Piyush Mathur
Chief Business Officer
Prior to Odyssey, Piyush led Simpa Energy, an award-winning renewable energy financing business in India that achieved national scale under Piyush’s leadership and was later acquired by ENGIE. Previously, he worked as a VC investor with Kleinwort Benson/Frontiers Capital and an M&A advisor with KPMG and Deloitte. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and received an MBA from London Business School. Piyush has an extensive background in cleantech and finance and now leads business development and strategic initiatives at Odyssey.

Jay Lurie
Head of Investments
Spearheading Odyssey’s private capital offerings, Jay has led pioneering financings in both frontier markets through his work at IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank, and Macquarie Capital; and in US distributed energy and infrastructure as the founding Chief Investment Officer at DC Green Bank. Jay holds an MA from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, a BBA in Finance from the University of Michigan, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.

Patrick Cousins
Head of Remote Management
Patrick completed his first complex off-grid project in 1997, when he built his own boat equipped with solar panels and a wind turbine. He founded a company that specialized in the design and installation of on and off-grid PV systems, and he was the Sales Manager of AutarcTech GmbH, a German manufacturer of li-ion battery management systems. Building on his passion for off-grid energy, he co-founded Ferntech in 2016 to commercialize monitoring technologies for the off-grid industry. Patrick now leads Customer Success at Odyssey.

Kyle Hodgson
Head of Engineering
Kyle is an experienced technology leader with a track record of success delivering digital products across many industries; from e-commerce to the electric power industry. A multidisciplinary leader, Kyle has held engineering leadership and product development roles at digital product startups in addition to an eight year career in software consulting. Prior to joining Odyssey, Kyle led the buildout of the engineering team at VNDLY, a cloud-native enterprise SaaS startup that was acquired by Workday in 2021.

Brian Hosking
Head of Developer Solutions
Brian’s training as a civil engineer opened the door for a career in property development focused on bringing affordable homes to first-time homeowners in South Africa. An understanding of the necessity for sustainable development and energy efficiency in the built environment led Brian to focus on the delivery of sustainable technologies, particularly distributed renewable energy and storage in emerging markets across Africa. His experience with building at scale has prepared him to lead the Developer Solutions team, helping project developers leverage the Odyssey platform to scale DRE projects.

Justin Tinsey
Head of Procurement
Justin is an experienced DRE professional with more than 12 years of experience in business development across Africa. Before joining Odyssey, Justin built a cutting-edge solar equipment distribution company in Nigeria and launched a solar installation company in South Africa. Justin was a senior consultant for Huawei’s digital power division and helped plot the department’s expansion across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Prior to these roles, Justin served in various business and project development capacities across SSA. He holds an M.A. from Boston University and a B.A. from Michigan State University.
